1.  What is Life Purpose Coaching?

Life Purpose Coaching aims to support people who are experiencing challenges, to work out and meet their life’s goals, in their personal and professional lives, by guiding them towards the direction of their goals.  A Life Purpose Coach will get you to your goals faster than if you worked alone.  Life Purpose Coaching helps people to find solutions for their life challenges drawing on a number of disciplines, from sociology, psychology and counselling, to include Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques.

Life Purpose Coaching supports people to explore underlying causes that stops the person from achieving their ambitions and successes.  As a result, the person may find routes to success.  Life Purpose Coaching helps people to break negative belief patterns, become more confident and decisive, as well as being able to set clear goals towards achieving what the person wants from their life.  The Life Purpose Coaching process can address specific life goals, business successes, transitions in a person’s professional and / or personal lives, relationships, career transitions and so much more.

2.  What is a Life Purpose Coach?

Our Life Purpose Coaches are accredited professionals who are passionate about supporting and guiding people to make, meet and exceed personal and professional goals. Our coaches support clients through a process to rediscovering their strengths and abilities, bringing them back in line with their true life’s purpose.  Our coaches also support clients to determine the direction of their lives and to reach their life goals, in both their personal and professional lives.  The process of rediscovery can include excelling in the workplace, becoming happy or happier and fulfilled at home, exploring their potential, managing health conditions, starting a new business, achieving life ambitions and so much more.

By harnessing techniques based on core psychological principles and intuition, Life Purpose Coaches guide, empower and inspire clients and provide them with a toolkit of techniques to confidently face difficult challenges and overcome emotional barriers.

A Life Purpose Coach won’t tell you what to do, as the answer is most likely within you, already.  What a Life Purpose Coach will do is provide an objective, safe and empowering environment, to grow and develop in.

At the heart of what we do, as Life Purpose Coaches, the idea is that people can change their lives, given the right guidance and opportunity to do so.  By offering advice, opinions and judgements, we would be undermining some of the basic principles of Life Purpose Coaching.

3.  Why would I choose to see a Life Purpose Coach?

We appreciate that many people start off by thinking that they don’t really need a Life Purpose Coach and that such a process will not work for them.  However, the more you think about it, we often turn to friends and those we trust the most, for help and guidance when making key decisions or when overcoming challenges.  This has been happening for years and we can all name at least one person in our lives that we always turn to.

Our friends and loved ones always want to do their best by us, even if they are not equipped with the knowledge and skills you need for your specific challenge, or simply that they may not be able to stay objective about the situation you are facing to give suitable advice.  Or it could be that you need someone who knows nothing about you, to support you to achieve a specific goal.

It’s at this point that a Life Purpose Coach will be able to help and guide you through to a brighter and more successful place.

4.  How can a Life Purpose Coach help me?

A Life Purpose Coach draws upon many techniques to help people in all aspects of life, as one person’s life’s purpose will be vastly different to another persons.  If you have ever struggled with sticking to a diet, learning a new language, moving away from your comfort zone, improving your self-esteem or confidence, then seeking the help of a Life Purpose Coach may be the right choice.

A Life Purpose Coach approaches a situation in a pragmatic way and through questions and exercises, the Coach will form an understanding of how a person see’s the world.  The very idea of change can be intimidating and therefore the need to take slow and steady steps towards your goals, may be necessary.  Equally, you may be trying many different things to reach your goals and find that you don’t quite reach them or that you have many ideas and don’t know which way to turn.

A Life Purpose Coach can help form clarity and create direction for the person, as well as creating a plan, with manageable steps to reach the ultimate goal.  A Life Purpose Coach will also introduce incentives and reminders to ensure that the person keeps on track and motivated.

At RPB Coaching we tailor our approach with every client, drawing upon many tools and techniques.  Therefore, our service is truly unique each time we deliver.  Our Coaches are accredited in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), as well as in Life Purpose Coaching.  This expertise and experience give us a wide portfolio to work from.

5.  What type of goals can a Life Purpose Coach help me with?

Goals vary from person to person and we at RPB Coaching are always hesitant about putting people into boxes.  We find that each person is unique and will come to us with a unique set of circumstances and goals, to work with.

Generally speaking, the following are some examples and not exhaustive of the type of goals, our clients work towards:

Setting goals and finding life’s purpose

Managing change in their lives or working through transitions in life

Being able to better manage changes in their lives

Within our specific practice, we work with a wide range of clients, in all settings.  Our most popular coaching approach seems to be a 4-session programme called Creating Change.  Generally, our clients engage with us either on a monthly or bi-monthly basis and this will depend on client need.

7.  Are there different types of coaching?

Yes.  There are many different types of coaching and at RPB Coaching, our Life Purpose Coaches will cover a number of coaching types to help a client achieve their life’s purpose and passion goals.  Coaching sessions are tailored to each client and the coaching types used will depend on the client’s goals and how they wish to achieve those goals and in within the client’s timeline.

The following list gives a brief outline of the different coaching types that RPB Coaching particularly focus on.

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list and there are many others available.  However, our Coaches will feed other types of coaching into our sessions, as necessary.

7a.  Vision Coaching

Vision coaching focuses on future-thinking and works on the basis that the power of thought can influence and harness the shape of the future.  This is based on a theory that the more we focus our minds and thoughts on a vision of an outcome we desire, the more likely it is that the outcome will happen.

Vision coaching is often used in sports coaches to hep athletes visualise the process of winning.  Visualisation prepares the body for the tasks and activities it is about to undertake, in achieving a specific goal rather than focusing on negative thoughts and self-doubt that may either hinder achievement or reaching the goal.

Vision coaching and visualisation is being successfully used more and more in business and life settings.

7b.  Transformational coaching

Transformational coaching focuses on supporting people who wish to undergo significant change or changes, in their lives.  This type of coaching, in fact focuses on a person’s attitude or perception of themselves rather than the person’s actions and behaviours.  Transformational coaching may involve working on a person’s image or their perceptions of themselves and their limitations.

Not achieving our dreams or not doing the things that we expected to do with our lives can surprisingly have a profoundly negative effect on a person.  Feeling as though we have not achieved or accomplished what we had planned to can lead to frustration and disappointment.  This is particularly true if self-doubt or fear are holding us back.  By working to clarify a situation or behavioural pattern, by working on our self-belief to build confidence and by taking action, with the help of a Coach, a person can achieve their goals and feel fulfilled.

7c.  Mindfulness coaching

“Mindfulness” means a heightened state of awareness of the person (the self) and the world surrounding the person.  Mindfulness coaching has become a popular type of coaching in recent years, where people and businesses are engaging with the practice to create an enlightened and calmer environment.  Mindfulness can help a person or business to develop better relationships, reduce tensions, improve reactions to stressful situations, create empathy with others, increase concentration and attention, as well as help achieve a healthier work / life balance.

Mindfulness and meditation are now used to treat stress and depression and can be especially beneficial to people who suffer from anxiety and depressive conditions.  Mindfulness also has a spiritual element to it, so can also help people who are looking to explore their spirituality.

7d.  Holistic coaching

Holistic coaching focuses on the person as a whole, where this type of coaching works on the basis that in order to focus on one issue, you also have to focus on all the issues surrounding or connected to it, in order find a suitable and sustainable solution.  This is based on a theory that everything in our lives is connected and inclusive.  Therefore, a change made in one area of your life will have an impact somewhere else in your life (cause and effect).

A Life Purpose Coach will often review and understand the client’s whole life, everything from physical fitness and lifestyle; to relationships and their social lives, as well as their levels of stress, as a way of helping the client achieve a peaceful equilibrium.  Holistic coaching encourages clients to better understand how their actions affect the world; gives them a greater sense of purpose; potentially gives them a healthier body and a certainly a calmer outlook on life, as well as an increased satisfaction from the little things in life.

Holistic coaching is especially useful when working to create a work / life balance, as it explores all elements of a person’s life, in order to help them develop solutions that maintain balance in their lives.  Holistic coaching can also be used to work with focusing on health and stress related challenges.

7e.  Performance coaching

Improvement is a core theme of Life Purpose Coaching and improved performance is at the centre of performance coaching.  Performance coaching can help people push their boundaries and limitations, to exceed expectations.  Performance coaching can support people to set practical and achievable goals, as well as develop new goals; identify challenges and blocks that stop people achieving their true potential; develop tools to overcome weakness and identify and maximise on strength.

Performance coaching takes a more bespoke and tailored approach to developing yourself and adds greater value to the development process, by supporting people to address the unique set of challenges that each person faces.

Performance coaching can be used in all settings, across business and personal coaching, as this type of coaching takes into consideration other associated factors, such as relationships and well-being.  Performance coaching can be engaged to work towards improvement, as well as burnout and stress.  A performance coach will challenge and support a person, enabling them to perform at their very best, more often.

7f.  Business coaching

Business coaching focuses on supporting business owners, executives, managers, employees and people who are looking to change their careers, by helping them to develop and tune into skills that could improve their chances of success. Business coaching includes executive coaching, start-up business coaching, management coaching, staff coaching and interview coaching. Business coaches help their clients to explore their strengths, build in their weaknesses and learn new techniques to help them excel.

Business coaches give an external, objective and constructive perspective of a person’s situation.  As business is an incredibly diverse subject, business coaches will specialise.  There are a number of key business subject that business coaches will focus on and include public speaking skills; improved communication skills; team management; change management and making decisions; improving interview skills (both interviewer and interviewee); motivation and work/life balance and start-up business coaching.

7g.  Solution-focused coaching

Solution-focused coaching focuses on what the person wants to ultimately achieve  .A Solution-focused coach will work with the person to clarify exactly what the person’s vision is, by questioning their goals and the finer details behind each goal.  Solution-focused coaching encourages a person to be introspective, to self-evaluate, set clear goals and gain a richer understanding of their own unique life path.

Solution-focused coaching works well for people who are planning to develop themselves, as well as for entrepreneurs.  This type of coaching encourages self-evaluation, goal setting and solution finding.

7h.  Relationship coaching

Relationship coaching is available to individuals, couples, groups and in a business setting to teams, to build healthier and happier relationships.  Relationship coaches encourage clients to question their assumptions and identify behavioural patterns and blocks, as well as helping clients to address their challenges and goals.  As a result, clients will learn to set clearer and healthier relationship boundaries, as well as developing greater listening and communicating skills.  By working with a Relationship coach, the client will be able to work towards more fulfilled relationships and personal transformation, as a result of effective and satisfying relationships.

8.  What happens during a Life Purpose Coaching session?

Typically, our Life Purpose Coaching sessions last approximately 60 minutes.  The actual length of a session will depend on you and your needs.  At RPB Coaching we prefer to conduct a “discovery session” initially, where both you and the coach ‘get to know’ one another and achieve a better understanding of you aims.  During the discovery session, you and the coach will agree an action plan and schedule ongoing sessions.  After the discovery session, we see our clients either face-to-face or through video messaging, where all sessions last approximately 60 minutes.

Telephone sessions can be agreed, upon request.

During the session, your appointed Life Purpose Coach will ask you a number of questions relating to your current situation, what you want to achieve in your life, what, if any areas of your life make you feel unhappy and where you would like to see yourself in the future.  Life Purpose Coaching relationships work in partnership with you and therefore, you will need to be prepared to challenge, reflect and act upon certain ideas that help you move forward.  You will never be forced to make decisions you don’t feel comfortable with.  All sessions are private and confidential, giving you a safe space to explore, grow and develop in.  On occasion, you will be set tasks and objectives to do outside of the session.

9.  What is NLP?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is considered to be one of the most effective and accessible self-help methods to come from modern psychology.  NLP brings together the three most influential components that create human experience: how our bodies and thoughts function (neurology), how we take in information and communicate with others (language) and patterns of behaviour that are learned through specific experiences and outcomes (the way we see the world - programming).

NLP works on many levels simultaneously, involving the development of behaviour and a flexible approach and also involves developing ways to think differently (strategically), as well as understanding the processes that we undergo mentally in specific behaviours.  NLP provides tools and techniques to help the person develop themselves to reach personal excellence.  In doing so, NLP also establishes a system of empowering beliefs and approaches guide the person to exploring their identity, to re-discovering themselves and to finding their true purpose.  NLP is not only about competence and excellence; it is also about wisdom and vision.

Many Life Purpose Coaches and Life Coaches use NLP techniques to help clients shift or change the way that they see and approach situations, by re-programming thought and behavioural patterns.  NLP works on the basis of assessing a person’s view of the world and supporting them to adapt behaviour and reactions that enable them to live a happy, more fulfilled and desired life.

10.  What is CBT?

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is a short-term, goal-focused psychotherapy treatment that takes a practical approach to working with challenging situations and problem-solving.  The key focus of CBT is to change patterns of behaviour and thinking that are often the cause of people’s challenges, which in turn will change the way a person feels.  CBT is used to help a wide range of challenges in a person’s life, such as relationship problems, sleeping difficulties, anxiety, depression and stress, as well as drug or alcohol abuse.  CBT works by changing a person’s attitude and behaviour by focusing on the thoughts, images, beliefs and attitudes that the person holds (known as cognitive processes) and how these cognitive processes relate to the way a person behaves, in terms of dealing with their emotional challenges.

CBT therapy tends to be short, usually taking between five to ten months for most emotional challenges.  During each session, the client and therapist will work together to better understand the challenges faced and develop new strategies to tackle and manage them.  CBT will introduce a set of principles to the client, which can be applied whenever they need to, throughout their lifetime.

Please note that at RPB Coaching our Coaches are be trained in CBT to level 3 and level 4.  However, we do not offer CBT therapy as a stand-alone service.  CBT techniques are integrated into our Coaches delivery and are used to strengthen and support Life Purpose Coaching.

11.  How is Life Purpose Coaching different to counselling?

Life Purpose Coaching focuses on the person in the here and now.  During the coaching process, a Life Purpose Coach will work with the future as the central point for all personal development, self-improvement and growth, as well as providing the client with tools and techniques to develop coping strategies, to help them achieve their goals.

Counselling also focuses on the person in the here and now.  However, a counsellor works to determine past events and the impact of those past events, on the client’s current challenges.  A counsellor will develop coping mechanisms and strategies with the client, to help them move forward.

The key difference between Life Purpose Coaching and counselling, is that counselling can investigate any underlying mental health issues, whereas a Life Purpose Coach is not qualified (unless specifically trained) to diagnose and treat mental health issues.  A Life Purpose Coach can suggest that the client visits a General Practitioner (GP).

12.  What is the difference between a Life Purpose Coach and a Business Coach?

The key difference between a Life Purpose Coach and a Business Coach is that a Life Purpose Coach works with a range of skills, across a wider range of coaching styles, to help a person recognise and achieve their life’s purpose.  A Business coach tends to focus on business skills and how a person can excel in business.

At RPB Coaching we work across both person-focused coaching and business coaching, as a person’s life’s purpose could lead them into the business environment.  For further information, please do contact the team, who are happy to discuss your specific needs further.

13.  Do Life Purpose Coaches need a qualification?

Life Coaching and Life Purpose Coaching is currently an unregulated profession in the UK.  This means that essentially, anyone can call themselves a Life Coach or Life Purpose Coach.

At RPB Coaching we only engage with Coaches who are accredited and hold relevant qualifications.  We take our work seriously and accept that both Coach and client need to be able to work together and create great rapport.  For this reason, we will contact you prior to engagement and introduce ourselves.  We find that this is a great way to start a relationship and gives our client’s reassurance.

14.  Can I have coaching sessions online, by telephone or through video messaging?

Yes, I offer a range of mediums to deliver coaching sessions and programmes from.  My preference is to work face-to-face, either in person or through online mediums such as zoom and Google Meet.  I do offer telephone session and only to those clients who have completed a face-to-face discovery session first.

15.  Does online and telephone coaching sessions really work?

Online and video coaching remain as effective as face-to-face coaching.  Many Coaches successfully deliver in this way and believe it to be an accepted approach, provided sessions are planned and well-formed.  Many clients are happy with this approach to coaching delivery, where face-to-face coaching is not appropriate or available.

At RPB Coaching, we do offer telephone coaching where requested and only after an initial face-to-face session.

16.  Why does online and telephone coaching cost the same, as face-to-face coaching sessions?

Online and telephone coaching cost the same, as coaching fees are determined by time rather than how they are delivered.  Our clients engage with us from across the UK.  Where we are required to travel, coaching fees will increase to recognise travel costs and expenses.

17.  How do I pay for my sessions?

For face-to-face sessions, clients will be asked to pay for their session at the end of their session.  If a client has engaged with one of our programmes, they will pay at the point of agreement.  Additional fees will be invoiced and paid at the end of each session.

For online and telephone sessions, clients will be asked to pay by online bank transfer, prior to the session.

Please feel free to contact me for further information.

18.  Are coaching sessions confidential?

All of our Coaches are bound by confidentiality and work within our company’s General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) guidelines, across all delivery platforms.
