What is a Mastermind Group?

What is a Mastermind Group?

“The coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of the definite purpose” Oliver Napoleon Hill. Oliver Napoleon Hill, a self-help author best known for his book “Think and Grow Rich”, says that when a group of minds come together, they essentially create an unseen, powerful force, a mastermind.

Masterminds are usually established by one person, the facilitator who sets the direction and purpose of a group, usually to support others to achieve a specific, common purpose, such developing leadership skills, to help scale businesses or to develop efficiencies across a business, amongst other goals. The important thing that each mastermind must clearly outline its purpose and objective.

Typically, masterminds are small groups of like-minded business owners and professionals, that meet regularly, to ensure that everyone in the group has an opportunity to contribute, develop and grow in equal measure, whilst developing their personal skills, knowledge and peer relationships. Everyone within the group are equals and learning is a mutual experience. This is the perfect space to mentor peers with your expertise and to receive mentoring from a group of peers.

What Mastermind Groups are not

Mastermind groups are not a networking group, nor are they an executive coaching or group coaching opportunity. There are no leaders in a mastermind group, rather a facilitator who brings the group together, focuses the group and facilitates group conversations for fairness. Whether it’s giving feedback, holding one another accountable or exploring solutions to challenges faced in business or in the workplace, the group members stimulate, provoke and elevate thinking to a higher level.
